"How To: Protect Yourself in the Summer Sun"
Summer is finally here, and you no longer have an excuse for being whiter than Casper the Friendly Ghost. We here at The Whisperer want to help you find safe, efficient ways to get tan that are cheap, and don’t require you to go lay in a glass bed either. So grab those towels and swim suits, and one of these tanning oils so you stop looking so translucent!
With one of these great products below, you can help yourself to a great tan, and smart sunscreen usage. Some tips for proper application are as follows:
Use a lot! You can never have too much sunscreen or oil (Unless of course you’re leaving an oil slick when you get in the pool. Then maybe use a little less.)
Make sure you’re covering everything! It’s easy to forget your face, shoulders, ears, and neck but they burn just as easily as everything else.
Make sure you’re also reapplying if you’re out in the sun for extended periods of time. It only sticks around for so long!
So what are these aforementioned products, you ask?
The One and Only;;
Banana Boat is pretty much the monopoly of all tanning and sunscreen oils and lotions, at least where I’m (Porcelain_Doll) from. It comes in all sizes, ages, and SPF’s. From Baby Banana Boat to Dark Tanning Oil (That has a divine smell also, if I do say so myself) you are sure to find whatever it is that you need for a long day out in the sun. Some favorites include:
For Kids/Baby: Kids Tear-Free SPF 50 Continous Spray, Kids Tear-Free SPF 50 Lotion (Also comes in Baby Tear-Free.)
For Everyone Else: Sun Wear SPF 30 Faces Oil-Free Daily Sunscreen Lotion, Ultra Defense SPF 80 Sunscreen Lotion, Deep Tanning SPF 8 Sunscreen Lotion, and Dark Tanning Oil SPF 4.
Second Best;;
Personally, I’m not a Coppertone girl, but they have some great lotions for kids and babies. So, moral of the story: If you want good stuff for your kids, go for Coppertone. If you want the goods for yourself (particularly if you’re looking for a great tan) go for the Banana Boat. (I’m not being biased here or anything.)
For Kids/Baby: Coppertone Water BABIES Sunscreen SPF 70+, Coppertone KIDS Sunscreen Lotion SPF 70+
For Everyone Else: Coppertone ultraGUARD Lotion SPF 50, Coppertone Oil Free Lotion SPF 30, Coppertone Tanning Lotion SPF 4.
Home-made??;;
We here at The Whisperer even found a recipe for homemade tanning oil. So, instead of buying all those tanning oils with millions of chemicals that you can’t even pronounce, let alone know the nature of, you can now make it yourself.*
Using a refined olive oil, tincture of iodine, and a small amount of carrot juice if you want a darker tan, you can make your own tanning oil instead of spending money on something else.
Start off with the refined olive oil (This is used seeing as it has many, many minerals and nutrients in it that can help your skin.) then add several drops of tincture of iodine (This is what protects your skin from sunburn, and can help to produce a nice golden tan.)
As stated above, you can add a few drops of carrot juice (a VERY, VERY SMALL AMOUNT) to help amplify your tan.
You add it all together, and shake shake shake, then apply. Seeing as there is no waterproofing agent in it, make sure you reapply after going in water. Also much be applied once per hour of sun exposure, or sometimes even less than an hour if you burn easily.

*I have not tried this. The Whisperer is not liable for anything that may happen if not mixed correctly or something of that sort.
